Turbocharged CVH : KE Jetronic Fuelling Mods

The Escort RS Turbo is fitted with Bosch KE fuel injection. It must be remembered that this system is a very basic fuel system and as such has several limitations. Common issues found the the KE system are the inability to fuel correctly beyond 14psi and running lean at rpms higher than 5500rpm.

Our first modification involves adjustment of the KE electro pressure regulator. This results in a fuel enrichment across the entire fuel range, but can achieve the correct AFR (air to fuel ratio) at higher boost levels. Using this technique it is possible to increase fueling sufficently to support power outputs of 200bhp. Any attempt to increase fuelling beyond this power level using this method will result in excessive part load fuelling and poor economy.

Our 2nd modification requires some more complicated changes to be made to the fuel metering head and fuel ecu and allows power to be increased to 230bhp whilst still maintaining the correct on boost AFR's.

Our last modification for those that do require more power from the KE system is the fitment of a 5th injector and MF2 mappable controller. We normally use an 803 green injector and 3 bar map sensor, and recommend this system for up to 260bhp. We have managed to use the KE and 5th injector route to power a 300bhp engine but we now advise changing to our Cosworth Management conversion for anything over 250bhp as it produces a more refined setup.
